Cardboard Paintings:
January 2025 – May 2026.
This body of work began as observational drawing walks through Bristol, using charcoal to capture fleeting movements and map the rhythms of urban topography. Back in the studio, these drawings were layered and overlapped into semi-abstract compositions. Reading Emily Dickinson’s concise and electric poetry acted as a catalyst, prompting my imagination and subconscious to push these urban observations further. Through this material experimentation on scavenged scrap cardboard, the initial street scenes transformed into colourful, richly layered internal landscapes that merge external observation, memory and imagionation.
